Golfing Abroad

SRUC Elmwood provided a great experience through informative classes and uniquely planned experiences. I truly enjoyed having the opportunity to play so many different courses in the home of golf. We were provided with great accommodations and put in a great location. I was lucky to be placed with an awesome group of friends some who I even consider family now. Although the administration side in Scotland was great, there was a huge lack of communication from the Adelante side on what activities would be included. There were multiple false promises on what this program would include and a lot of inorganization on there side. A lot of things that sold the program to me when I initially signed up were not included once I arrived abroad which was disappointing.

I love this trip and would recommend it to anyone looking to pursue a career in golf somewhere down the line. Although, if you are going on this trip purely for golf matters, expect to spend a lot of money paying for all of the courses that you want to play, only a few of the green fees are provided for you.

Andrew, excellent news you enjoyed your time in the Summer Golf Program with us in Scotland. This is the second year we are offering this customized and highly unique Study Abroad Program! And yes Golf can get quite expensive on the historic courses in Scotland: we do include fees for 6 Courses and importantly, assist you with even getting access (lottery systems and notorious waitlists in Summer, well we did help you get around those!) to any extra Golf for evening tee times. This years included Golf took place at these courses: Arbroath, Scotscraig, Lundin Links, Kingarrroch and Boat of Garten. We also manged to get good rates at Dumbarnie and Carnoustie. Also included were some weekend Golf outings and excursions, some part of the program and some with a reduced fee. I know some days you all didn’t finish golf till 10 pm! In one of the documents we sent out to you about 3 weeks before your arrival into Scotland, called the Final Itinerary document, we outlined what would be included IN BOLD, and on what days, and do our best to keep to that schedule, and also approximate costs at all Courses for any weekend of afternoon golf anyone wanted to participate in on their own time. We are sorry that this was not made extra, extra clear and will use your input so this doesn’t happen again next year. We know that you were a very close knit group this summer, and that what you learned & your time in Scotland will both enhance your studies / Resume and provide a long list of unforgettable memoires & experiences.

I had such a great time!

When I first heard I could study abroad in Scotland and get to play so many cool golf courses, I knew I had to sign up. When I first got to Scotland, I felt a little bit of culture shock and was a little nervous for what was to come. As soon as I met Gary, Graeme and Ian all of those worries went away and they helped me get accustomed to it and from then on I had an amazing time!
